Joe Calzaghe victims Jeff Lacy and Peter Manfredo Jr will meet at Undefeated on December 8.
Former world champion Lacy and the 'Contender' star have both signed up to fight on the undercard of Ricky Hatton's showdown with Floyd Mayweather Jr in Las Vegas. Lacy lost his IBF super-middleweight title to Calzaghe on points in March 2006, in Calzaghe's career-defining fight. The American powerhouse bounced back with victory over Ukrainian Vitali Tsypko before the turn of the year, but has not fought since after undergoing surgery on his shoulder. Quality Manfredo - stopped in three by Calzaghe in April - has gone on to beat Americans Ted Muller and David Banks since, and will want to take his chance on such a big occasion. Lacy said: "I've been anxious to get back in the ring and this is the perfect night for my return after my injury." WBO world junior featherweight champion Daniel Ponce De Leon will also defend his crown against Eduardo Escobedo on the bill and Oscar de la Hoya is delighted with the line-up. "We've pulled out all the stops to make this card the event it should be," the president of Golden Boy Promotions said. "There is no filler on this pay-per-view card, with each fight holding important implications for the winner and the loser. "These are the fights I want to see as a fight fan." |

Its a decent card Lacy looked shot after the Calzaghe fight and was gifted a hometown decision against Tsypko, then his shoulder injury almost ended his career. This fight should show if he has anything left though with Calzaghe and Kessler around any chance of him getting or keeping a title is slim at best. This fight is make or break for both fighters and could put the winner in contender ship for a title.
Don't know a great deal about De Leon but he's won 33 and stopped 30 inside the distance so it looks like he carries power. Escobedo isn't a powder puff puncher either and is dropping down a weight for this fight. Two little guys with fast, heavy hands, this potentially could be fight of the night. |
