Default Router Blues !

I sold a bike on Ebay and had some spare cash so I thought I'd splash out on a router. I normally research anything I buy till I'm so undecided that I don't buy it ! Routers seem to be so shite in general that anyone you decide on will have so many bad comments that none seem worth buying at all.... Anyway I did a bad thing ! I took the dog for a walk and just went into a shop and bought a router without doing any research before hand. The only one they had in stock was a D-link Di-624. Away I went and set the thing up. No problem at all. The wizard seemed pretty straight forward and my desk top was on the net in minutes ! Hooooray !!!! The next nite I decided to set up me laptop....... Cut a long story short......... I spent hours trying to connect. Loads of google and loads of different tricks to get past " Acquiring Network Address " At this point I noticed my desktop pc was loosing it's connection. I kept resetting the router and away it went again only for it to stop shortly afterwards... I never did get the laptop online at all !!!! I then looked at few reviews for the router and hey guess what ! It's a piece of poo ! Duh ! Sent an email to AUT where I bought it and they didn't reply... So called them and they said they'd test it... I am taking it back 2mrw and I don't another D-link in exchange ! Can anyone recommend a good router for cable ?

just make sure , the router allows dchp , which will give each pc laptop a seperate ip, also, ditch the software that came with the laptops wireless, and opt for xp/vistas own, will work no problem, had this problem ,a few times and always got it working, usal problem is the software for the wireless device .

The wireless Netgear [what i'm on atm] is the biz, but it was about £50, a lot of people wont pay that much, i have a d-link wireless as well, and an old non-wireless d-link, both have worked great.
Went to one of my neighbours, who buys any cheap crap, and no matter what we tried, this t-link [or something similar] would not work, so he wasted £25 in the first place.

They tested it and as suspected it was toast.... I didn't do an exchange ! Just got me dollar back and ordered a cheapo one from ebuyer... http://www.ebuyer.com/product/97221/...roduct_reviews

It looks pretty good so I'm going to see what happens... The d-link dropped it's connection for phun and it's a common problem. The shop had 3 come back for the same reason... One review I read said that you don't need to be an expert in wireless networking to own a Di-624 but by the time you give up trying to get it to work you will be. Enough said I think !

I did get online via the open network but it was real slow. I recieved the Buffalo from ebuyer on Monday morning, not bad as I only ordered on Saturday afternoon ! The set up was okay and I'm on my laptop as I type. It's been running 24/7 every since with no drop-outs at all. For £25 I really can't fault it. Well pleased !
